The German Association for Historical Peace and Conflict Studies (AKHF) is an interdisciplinary academic association with members in various countries both within and outside of Europe. Its aim is to foster collaboration in researching peace and conflict resolution from a historical perspective, across different disciplines and time periods. Within this shared objective, the working group brings together a wide range of positions, approaches, and interests.
The topics addressed by AKHF include historical analyses of concepts of peace and violence, as well as efforts to prevent wars or to limit societal violence. In the spirit of critical historical peace and conflict research, the focus lies not only on attempts to resolve conflicts peacefully and to develop lasting peace, but also on the social, political, and societal transformations in how these challenges are addressed.
