German Association for Historical Peace and Conflict Research

The German Association for Historical Peace and Conflict Research is a society founded in 1984. It aims to contribute to research on the challenges and changes of peace and conflicts in all their historical dimensions. This endeavor is not based on an authoritative definition of “peace”, as the association brings together diverse standpoints, approaches, and interests. The German Association for Historical Peace and Conflict Research strives to be a forum for interdisciplinary and international exchange for those working in history, political science, sociology, psychology, education, law, cultural studies, and other fields.

Debates and exchanges are fostered through annual academic conferences and meetings, through publications such as the book series “Frieden und Krieg”, through reviews published on our website, and through regular newsletters. The association’s members can make use of all the aforementioned media to enhance visibility for their work in the field of historical peace and conflict research.

If you are interested in becoming a member, please send your application—including a short CV with information about your research interests and relevant publications—to the spokespersons. The members’ annual general meeting decides on applicants’ acceptance to the association. The annual membership fee is 25 Euros.
